Celtic Solstice Parking Plan
Grinches We Have Heard On High

First of all, the race starts at 8:30 AM this Saturday.  Please carpool.

The Grinch creeps into Druid Hill looking for percenters still who dare to park in wide open spaces instead of the planned parking places and places a call to the grouchy Saul who tows the cars not very far to the Zoo by Whoville.

The No Parking Area map is here: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5217788

Parking Guidelines for Celtic Solstice:  If you want to enjoy the Celtic Solstice Pancake Breakfast Special at Gertrude’s in the BMA  after the race, you may want to park over there…more in a bit.

We are planning to run shuttle buses, so don’t worry about the distance.

Parking is very tight in Druid Hill Park because the runners eliminate most of the parking spaces that the park normally uses, so carpool and come early.  Here is our plan this year:

A)    Parking around Druid Lake:  As you come onto Druid Lake Drive from I 83 (Exit  7 to the Maryland Zoo) there is a gate that opens that will allow you to enter the lake drive.  For race purposes you need to drive as far around the lake as possible and park on the the OUTSIDE on a diagonal.  This keeps the race course open, and the diagonal parking maximizes the space.  The Grinch has decided that HOV cars will be parked closest to the start/finish, and single rider cars will be directed to Whoville, which is next to Whereville?
B)    Parking on Swann Drive:  As you pass the entrance to the lake, the very next right turn will take you into Druid Hill Park.  There is parking along the first two meters of road on both sides.
C)    Parking on Yellow Brick Road:  This is an old, unused street that goes behind the Rawlings Conservatory.  The road is a quarter mile long and we can park on both sides, however, you will need to go all the way to the turnaround if you get there early.
D)    Parking on the Mansion House Loop: NOT THIS YEAR
E)    Parking on Shop Road: Shop Road was part of the course last year.  Cars will be directed into Shop Road.  Parallel park ON THE RIGHT
F)    Secret Parking Spots at 800 Wyman Park – there are no spots in the lots where post-run we will have some fun with Boordy wine and and really fine hot soup for the runners.  Do not boohoo if you are moved to Zooville.
G)    Johns Hopkins/BMA Parking – there is plenty of metered and garage parking available at the Southwest side of the JHU campus, and it is a short walk to the start/finish area from there along Wyman Park Drive, in fact, even closer than the lake for many people.  JHU will charge $6 cash or credit in the garage or faculty lots, and there are metered spots over there as well.

Gertrude’s will feature a $10 pancake breakfast special for all the Celtic Solstice Runner’s after the race.  Gertrude’s is located in the Baltimore Museum of Art about half a mile from the start/finish.

Tomorrow – driving directions and spectator suggestions – this is one of the most spectator friendly courses ever designed!
